Where Sly Stone Lived Before He Lived in a Van in Crenshaw

The New York Post reported over the weekend that sixties/seventies funk superstar Sly Stone is living today in a camper van outside of a house in Crenshaw. He showers in his assistant's parents' house and records inside the van on a laptop. But it also mentions that, in his heyday (in the seventies, according to the Movieland Directory), the Bay Area native lived in a Tudor-style house on Bel Air Rd.: it "was tricked out in his signature funky black, white and red color scheme. Shag carpet. Tiffany lamps in every room. A round water bed in the master bedroom." Before Stone, John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas lived at the house. Musical actor Nelson Eddy and actor Gene Raymond both lived there; actress Jeanette MacDonald possibly lived with both of them--she was married to the latter and rumored to be more than co-stars with the former. The house last changed hands in 2007; according to an Eddy/MacDonald website, it's been torn down.
