Entire Eames House Living Room Being Moved Into LACMA

Here's LACMA's California Design, 1930-1965: "Living in a Modern Way" exhibition getting installed in the Resnick Pavilion--the show includes this mini version of the Pacific Palisades Eames House (aka Case Study House #8), which will house the real Eames living room. California Design is part of the big Pacific Standard Time project and is "the first major study of California midcentury modern design," according to the museum. A rep for LACMA tells us that the real Eames House is being restored, so its living room will be carefully removed and reinstalled inside this frame to the exact proportions of the original. The room will hold all of the real Eames House objects, including furniture, lighting, floor coverings, and bookshelves and their contents. Husband and wife mid-century modern all-stars Charles and Ray Eames designed the Eames House for themselves; it was built in 1949. The Eames Foundation's website says that while the house's living room is away, the space will be restaged "according to vintage photographs taken during Charles and Ray's earliest years in their home."
