After Elliott Smith committed suicide in 2003, his fans left tributes on the mural outside of Solutions electronics on Sunset Blvd. (near Fountain), which appears on the cover of his album Figure 8. After a big blue defacement in 2007, the mural was cleaned up in 2008, but over time it got all tagged up again. A tipster from the collaborative fmly writes in to tell us that, for what would have been Smith's forty-second birthday (!) this past weekend, "some folks went out early in the morning to show their honor for him by re-stenciling and touching up his mural which had been completely destroyed over the years." They added a stencil of Smith standing against the wall, just like he's doing on Figure 8.
