WeHo Planning on David Barton Gym: Eh

New, 9 comments

In what seems like a pretty safe position (aka no position), the West Hollywood planning commission declined to offer a formal recommendation on the proposed three-story David Barton gym project planned for Sunset and Horn. The planners sent the development--one floor of retail, one of gym, one of office, 238 parking spaces--to the full city council to decide; the WeHo News described the planning commission's take as "tepid praise and faint approval." The restraint may be due to intense neighborhood opposition, mostly over the development's billboard and four-screen video billboard that wraps around one of the building's sides. Complicating matters is that WeHo would financially benefit from the advertising explosion, possibly up to $500,000 a year. [WeHo News]
