Lots of Stairs and Views on Durand Drive in Hollywoodland

New, 15 comments

This week you voted that the Weekend Warrior visit 2917 Durand Dr., a recently-built house in Hollywoodland.

You're driving up something that's more pothole than road. You pass some dry brush that's a warm breeze away from spontaneous combustion. Your eye catches a "Missing Ferret" poster, and you almost don't see the other car coming your way on this one-lane road. It's a treacherous journey up to Durand Drive, but once you're there, it's worth the trek. Number 2917 is dauntingly tall and the steps up to the main house could give you the butt and legs you'd always hoped for. Luckily for the future owners, there's already a frame where an elevator is under construction. The house itself is a sight, particularly the stunning stairs. Walking behind the property and up yet more stairs, one stands at the top of a private ridge. From there the Hollywood Reservoir, the Hollywood Sign, the Griffith Park Observatory, and Downtown LA are all visible. You always hear of houses advertised with panoramic views, but this is as literal as panoramic can get.
