How To: Hike Eagle Rock

New, 5 comments

Eagle Rock Patch instructs locals today on how to find and enjoy the Eagle Rock Canyon Hiking Trail. The trail, which opened in 2007, is less than a mile and leads from the street to an overlook next to the top of the neighborhood's eponymous rock--and its openness to the public is the result of an interesting piece of LA development trivia. An old LA Times article details the eighties-era Save the Rock campaign, which successfully fought a proposal to build a two-story building and a 43-space parking lot on land next to the rock. Some of the leftover money from that campaign helped community group Collaborative Eagle Rock Beautiful buy and protect the four and a half acres surrounding the rock as Eagle Rock Canyon.
