Runyon Canyon Neighbors Want Gates, Kor Taking the Reins in Vegas

HOLLYWOOD HILLS: Another day, another Hollywood Hills neighborhood trying to keep out troublemaking tourists. Next week, the City Council's Public Works Committee will consider a motion (pdf) to temporarily gate off Solar Drive at Astral Drive in Runyon Canyon (just below the infamous unfinished pink mansion). The motion, brought by area councilmember Tom LaBonge, gives a familiar reason: "The Hollywood Hills area is a very popular overlook area with great City views. Given this popularity, large numbers of people access this area throughout the day and night by driving through the local residential neighborhoods. Unfortunately, as a result of the traffic and the constant presence of visitors, the residential neighborhoods are facing security issues such as loitering, littering, drinking and smoking in a Very High Fire Severity Zone." The proposed closure is only 18 months--the residents will pay for gates restricting cars, but not pedestrians. [Curbed Inbox]

LAS VEGAS: Eastern Columbia/Barker Block/Viceroy developer Kor Group has been tapped for an overhaul of three year old Las Vegas condo tower The Martin, which has 372 one- and two- bedrooms in 45 stories (until January, the building was known as Panorama Tower North). Kor will redesign the common areas--including the porte-cochere, lobby, library lounge, pool areas, spa, fitness center, and conference room--and handle the building's sales and marketing. Landscape architect Mark Tessier (of the recent Pegasus rooftop redesign) will handle greenery. The makeover is expected to be finished by the end of the year. Prices at The Martin range from mid-$200k to more than $1.5 million and 103 units have already sold. [Curbed Inbox]
