There's been a recent spate of "smash and grab" jewelry store robberies Downtown, but on Monday a hyper-vigilant shopkeeper averted another likely crime and helped throw a bunch of crooks in the clink. Blogdowntown reports that a store owner at Broadway and Sixth saw a group of young guys circling his store in a car several times, all while wearing hooded sweatshirts in the middle of the day--the shopkeeper hit the panic button and alerted police, who stopped the two men and three juveniles for having concealed plates; they were booked for conspiracy to commit robbery. One of the men arrested may have been involved in previous "smash and grabs." Apparently, the price of gold may be contributing to these crimes. [blogdowntown]
