Another New Hotel for Downtown? Hampton Inn Circling South Park

New, 27 comments

A 375-room Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites could fill up another surface parking lot in South Park, reports the Downtown News. Developer T2 Development has already received proposals from potential architects for the "mid-rise" project, which will sit on Figueroa, across from the Convention Center, and could be up to eight stories. The project is preliminary, no entitlements yet, but T2 says they want to move fast. The news follows the April announcement of a new ground-up Marriott/Residence Inn tower across from LA Live (work is supposed to start in March), the rebranding of the nearby Holiday Inn into a Luxe property last year, the revival of the proposed Metropolis project, which could include a hotel, and several area hotels changing hands. The success of LA Live is providing momentum for all the action, while the NFL football stadium talk is another catalyst (the fact that LA hotels are doing pretty well likely helps too). Should Farmers Field come to fruition, could this be just the start of hotel madness in South Park? After the April announcement of the Marriott/Residence Inn, AEG president Tim Lieweke, who developed LA Live and is working on Farmers Field, predicted that there would be two hotel announcements for South Park this year (maybe a W next time?).
