1920s-era Camp Wildwood on Thirteen Acres in Topanga Canyon

New, 8 comments

Aw, man--can you believe it's almost Labor Day Weekend already? And this new listing in Topanga Canyon certainly isn't helping stave off a case of the Summer Bummers. Built in the early 1920s, the thirteen-acre Camp Wildwood was purchased in 1944 and turned into a resort and community event center by longtime Topanga residents Julia and Oka Stewart, who oversaw it for four decades. Since the Stewarts' passing, the once-flourishing camp seems to have gone downhill, judging by the state of its sign alone. (Seriously, no one could be bothered to fix the fallen "D" before taking a photo?) But perhaps there's someone out there willing and able to breathe new life into it, as the place seems to have plenty of potential. Per the listing, the rustic property includes the "original hand-built lodge home & guest cottages, guesthouses, Jr. Olympic swimming pool, with very rare RR zoning (resort & recreational use) PLUS great commercial income from 2 real estate offices and the Fernwood Market!" Asking price is $5.995 million.
