Mayor Villaraigosa went up to Sacramento yesterday and gave what a political science professor calls a "post-mayoral" speech. The biggest news is that he called for an end to Prop 13's application to commercial properties--meaning their property taxes could be raised by more every year than the strict amount currently allowed by the 1978 proposition. According to the Daily News, "Limiting Proposition 13's protections to only residential property owners could yield anywhere from $2.1 billion and $8billion in new revenue for the state, which should be spent on education and housing, Villaraigosa said."
