Things just got interesting in the bankruptcy-related sale of Garden Grove's Crystal Cathedral: the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange says it's interested in buying the property to use as a central cathedral, rather than building itself a new cathedral in Santa Ana as planned. That's in contrast to other offers (from Chapman University and a real estate developer) that would allow the Crystal Cathedral congregation to lease back buildings, including the Philip Johnson-designed cathedral. Head over to the LA Times for an analysis of the religious implications. [LAT]
