Clockwise from top left: Elizabeth Taylor's house, Marion Davies's old place, Bela Lugosi's castle, Allyn E. Morris's house
A whole bunch of noteworthy houses have sold in recent weeks--come ogle with us at these data points:
Nimes Rd., Bel Air: News about the sale of Elizabeth Taylor's long-time house in Bel Air has been trickling out. The house came on the market in May asking $8.6 million and went into escrow in June. We heard in July that it had sold after getting multiple offers and that the buyer was possibly "entrepreneur and futurist" Mark Bowen Barron. Now Redfin is listing the sale price at $8 million.
1700 Lexington, Beverly Hills: Marion Davies former house is one of those old Beverly Hills places with a boldfaced-name-studded deed--besides Hearst's mistress, producer Harry Cohn and singer Bing Crosby both lived there. It came on the market in August 2010 asking $12.5 million and closed on July 19 for $9.2625 million.
2835 Westshire Dr., Hollywoodland: Actor Bela Lugosi's thirties-era house, Castle La Paloma, has managed to maintain its 1926 glamor all these years, but we did hear last month that its buyer is planning to put $5 million into it. The house came on the market in April asking $2.367 million and just closed escrow with a sale price of $2.25 million.
2390 Silver Ridge Ave., Silver Lake: Commenters predicted a bidding war when architect Allyn E. Morris's personal residence went up for sale in June asking $668,000. It was the only of these houses to sell over asking--it went for $700,000.
