Red Light Cameras are Dead, Long Live Neutra's Kronish House

New, 11 comments

LOS ANGELES: Starting Monday, feel free to blow through every red light in town--KIDDING--but red light cameras will be out of commission after July 31, per a unanimous vote today by the City Council. Meanwhile, there are certainly plenty of reasons to throw out your unpaid red light ticket (there are about 65,000 outstanding, according to City Councilmember Mitch Englander), but it's not completely cut and dry. BEVERLY HILLS: The LA Conservancy has shone the preservation signal in the Beverly Hills sky in hopes of saving Richard Neutra's Kronish House, which is probably headed toward demolition. Letters of support are due to the city tomorrow--the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects wrote a plea to Mayor Barry Brucker and the city council (and suggested that Beverly Hills consider getting a preservation ordinance so that this doesn't keep happening). According to the Conservancy, the Kronish's owners have no plans to replace the house. [LA Conservancy/AIA]
