A report out yesterday analyzed the financials of a theoretical East LA city and found that taxes would need to be raised for the incorporation to pencil out. The AP reports that the review "found the city would initially see an $11 million budget shortfall, which would increase to $20 million after the elimination of state vehicle licensing fee revenue to cities," and suggested several revenue-generators, including a new garbage collection fee. The Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission is scheduled to vote in September on sending East LA cityhood to a residents' referendum. [AP]
