The DesertXpress high-speed train from Vegas to Victorville finished its environmental review, "allowing team members to move forward with their design and applications to secure funding," reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The train would get people between the two cities in 84 minutes (now about a three-hour drive) by traveling 130 mph. Yes, the western terminus is bizarre, but there were hopes of eventually linking it up with Palmdale, which, until recently, was supposed to be part of the California high-speed rail project. Now, a Palmdale station is in doubt (the whole HSR project doesn't necessarily seem like a sure thing, either), which doesn't really help DesertXpress's case. [LVRJ]
