Zooey Deschanel Loves DTLA, Echo Park Smurf Village Sells

DOWNTOWN: Feel free to resume your pining for quirky-brand actress Zooey Deschanel, because she loves Downtown LA and furthermore does not live on the Westside. Suppositions to the contrary were made in a ranty LA Times piece this weekend by Patt Morrison after Deschanel told a reporter at the Will-and-Kate-attended event at the Belasco Theater "I just don't want them to see the worst of L.A." The actress clears things up on her website: "I simply said, 'It’s funny they brought royalty here, there is a parking lot with trash around the corner.' It wasn’t an opinion. It was true. There was indeed a parking lot with trash around the corner. I thought that the juxtaposition of British Royalty and trash was amusing in a high-brow + low brow sort of way, but I never said that I, personally, didn’t like downtown, the Royals, or even trash." ECHO PARK: Work stopped on blue-wooded The Durbin, aka the Smurf Village, back in March 2009, and its site has sat blighty and inactive for more than two years now. We heard the 36 unit project had gone up for sale in February this year and now comes word it's sold--the buyer is mega-developer DR Horton and not Sony Pictures Animation working yet another Smurfs movie marketing angle.
