Out in Riverside County, there's a bit of a scrap over a proposed tax on big solar farms. Supporters of the 2 percent tax say it'll help offset the "massive sea of mirrors" and "huge landscapes and vistas semi-permanently altered and lost from other possible uses," plus help pay for maintenance in road infrastructure and wildife habitat. The two biggest solar projects coming in could alone bring in $50 million in tax revenue. But opponents, who've taken to cleverly calling it the "sun tax," think it'll dampen prospects for new solar farms in the area. For now, county supervisors are holding until August for a vote. [KPCC]
