The California Market grocery store, formerly at the corner of 5th and Western in Koreatown, is being torn apart piece by piece to make way for a new 81,000 square foot shopping center known as "The G". The three-story retail shopping center was designed by Gruen Associates, and will be anchored by a Gaju Marketplace. Per The G's web site, other tenants will include a Coffee Bean, Baskin Robbins, a Metro Bank and an unnamed spa. Opening date is scheduled for 2012. And per the Visit Koreatown web site, "there is no intent to allow bars as tenants." Crap! What's the fun in that.
