Wilshire Gayley Site All Clear, New Park for Green-Starved Maywood

New, 7 comments

WESTWOOD: Developer Kambiz Hekmat moves fast--his bulldozers appeared at the sight of a former Hollywood Video less than a month ago. Not only was the structure torn down, but all the concrete--there was a lot of it--has been carted away. Are we moving close to a groundbreaking for a new 29-story hotel? Westwood holds its breath. MAYWOOD: After the FBI shut down our servers last week (we didn't do anything, we swear!) we lost a day of our inaugural Outdoors Week. We'll have a few carry-overs to make up for the time lost, including this tidbit: a groundbreaking ceremony takes place on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Maywood (near Bell) to celebrate construction of the Pine Avenue Playground at Pine Avenue and 53rd Street. Numerous groups including the Trust for Public Land pitched in to create this green space for Maywood, which is especially dense and concrete-laden. The park will include a grassy play area, native plant garden, picnic areas, and water features. [Curbed InBox]
