Yellow Light

The City Council is split (and a little snipey) over red light cameras, which the mayor-appointed Police Commission voted to nix a couple weeks back. At its meeting yesterday, seven members voted to kill the cameras immediately and five voted to keep them, so they'll keep discussing the matter until they can get eight votes on a side. The program is set to expire on July 31. Councilmembers argued over both the high cost of the tickets and their unenforceability (45% go unpaid). [LAT]
