Santa Monica's eight new beach bathrooms are set to finally open in July, a little late in beach season, but compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (their construction is the result of a class action lawsuit). There will be three new bathrooms north of the Santa Monica Pier and five to the south--the one in these photos is at 2400 Ocean Front Walk. Each of the new Roesling Nakamura Terada-designed bathrooms has men's and women's sides separated by a central spine, plus outdoor sinks and showers, foot washes, bike racks, and drinking fountains. And they're all built east-west so they don't block views. According to the Santa Monica Daily Press, the bathrooms were supposed to be ready by Memorial Day, but hit a bunch of delays. Santa Monica's hoping more porta potties will suffice for now.
