Santa Monica Loves Some Field Ops Park Designs, Hates Others

New, 7 comments

Last week, the Santa Monica City Council approved general design plans and contracts for the Field Operations-designed Santa Monica Civic Center Parks, but were bored to tears by one section and have asked for new designs. While the Santa Monica Mirror calls the reaction to the large Palisades Garden Walk section a "lovefest," both officials and citizens were way less enthusiastic about the designs for the smaller Town Square, which fronts city hall. Even Field Ops principal Corner said "It’s a good, competent ? design, but its not great, it’s not fresh." The problem seems to be that the area is landmarked, which means there are restrictions on what kind of changes can be made. One parks and recreation commissioned said he wants to "allow Mr. Corner to punch it up a little more."
