HOLLYWOOD: Is that some furtive Christian symbolism hidden in the design of La Brea's The Avenue (formerly the Madrone)? Probably not--an LA Times article from August said "the design has horizontal accents of Art Deco and takes a cue from theatrical masks with its ornamental skin." Most of the construction on the 180 rental units looks done (nice balconies), though the giant retail spaces still look like war zones. The leasing team has indicated to interested parties that they'll start making contact in the next month or so. [Curbed Staff]
RIVERSIDE COUNTY: Federal officials joined Governor Brown today for the groundbreaking of the Blythe Solar Power Project, on 7,000 acres in eastern Riverside County (Native Americans who believe the plant will destroy historic geoglyphs protested). When completed, the plant will generate enough electricity to power 300,000-750,000 homes. [Curbed Inbox]
