"Bloomrs," the huge woven steel saddle, has won the Envisioning Silver Lake competition and will (possibly in altered form) join the Jiffy Lube on that awkward triangular median in Sunset Junction where Santa Monica Boulevard hits West Sunset. Community members voted on five potential designs at a meeting a couple of weeks ago and a committee made up of stakeholders selected the saddle, which is designed to serve as a planter, shade-maker, and meeting area. The installation is by team All That is Solid--members are Danielle Wagner, Alex Chew, Max Kuo, and Heather McGinn. City Councilmember Eric Garcetti's spokesperson says in an email: "The committee, composed of Silver Lake community stakeholders, will be working with the All That is Solid design team to refine the concept based on the contest design criteria, and the city's budget and engineering guidelines."
