Early JC Penney Partner's 1929 La Cañada Flintridge Estate

New, 15 comments

The listing for this 1929 property on a big flag lot in La Cañada Flintridge is a real history lesson. It tells us about architect Charles H. Kyson: "Known for his elaborate and period revival homes in Southern California, Kyson incorporates classic ornamentation and design throughout his structures." And it tells us about George Grant Hoag, for whom the estate was built: "Oversized common areas such as the living room, family room, dining room and solarium enhance the first floor along with Hoag's office where he spent his winters away from the company he co-founded, JC Penny." (It even tells us about "Vitruvian principles of soundness, utility and attractiveness.") It also helpfully adds that the property has three bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool, and an acre of land, and that asking price is $3.359 million.
