WEST ADAMS: The City of Los Angeles and the LA Conservancy are hosting the ninth annual Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ) conference this Saturday, May 7th. What oh what happens at an HPOZ conference, you ask? The conference will feature updates on historic preservation activities, an awards ceremony, and breakout sessions on all things HPOZ. Walking tours will be led in both the West Adams Terrace HPOZ (you can bicker with other participants over whether a home is Period Revival or Classical Revival) and the proposed HPOZ in Jefferson Park. The $20 registration price includes both breakfast and lunch. In these thrifty times, that sounds like good deal. You can registration via the LA Conservancy's web site. [Curbed InBox]
LOS ANGELES: A reader asks: "I have a question that I'm sure some reader will know the answer to. I'm putting in a garden and want to use straw as mulch, but I don't have any idea where I can buy bale near the Westside. None at Home Depot or Centinela Feed & Supply. Please help!" [Curbed InBox]
