Putting out some new renderings, today Brookfield Office Properties announced it was officially starting the renovation of the 7th + Fig retail center in downtown. And drumroll, this retail center has a new name. Meet "FIGat7th." Forthcoming changes include a 500-seat indoor/outdoor dining area, a 60-foot-wide stairway descending off Figueroa St, and a glass canopy. Asked if Brookfield had any updates for the retail center in light of City Councilwoman Jan Perry's plan to make this stretch of Fig a sign district (is that Target signage going to have any LED skin, for example?), a rep for the developer declined to comment. But what is known: Target and the rest of the retail plaza--a $40 million redevelopment project--will be finished by fall 2012. The design is being done by Gensler.
