Just about 55% of this season's pilots were shot in Los Angeles, and tax incentives aside, Variety wonders about the advantages and disadvantages of shooting in not-LA. One producer says he likes the Midwestern work ethic of Chicago and Pittsburgh, another (the executive producer of the CW's "One Tree Hill") says it's easier to shoot out of town if the actors are young and "don't have any roots yet." Also, production in smaller towns "is often a novelty that's more likely to be greeted with open arms." [Variety]
