Sylmar is trying to figure who is buried where at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, which was in use starting in 1874, but only has 13 headstones left. Geophysicist Brian Damiata has been looking into the matter, using radar to find places the earth has been disturbed and digging into archives and old grave plot maps. Pioneer Memorial was the Valley's first non-sectarian cemetery and Damiata says "There are many legends about the cemetery, almost all of which have no basis." [LADN, image via]
