The "Welcome to San Pedro"/"Come Back to San Pedro Soon" pedestrian bridge across Gaffey Street is about to start a $1 million makeover that's supposed to make it less of an eyesore. Phase one will be sandblasting and cleaning, phase two will add decorative blue lighting, and phase three will be landscaping. The bridge will also be changed to read just "San Pedro," and the chain-link will be replaced with a smaller-link fence, to make it harder for people to hang bed sheets emblazoned with birthday wishes.
