The California State Parks department has declined to help fund the controversial Whittier Narrows Natural Area, which a group of Gabrieleno Indians says would be built on ancestral burial grounds. If ancient Gabrielenos are exacting their revenge, they're doing it very bureaucratically. The Parks office rejected a request for a $7 million grant to build a 14,000 square foot water and nature museum that includes a 7,000 square foot model of the San Gabriel River. The $22 million project will forge ahead, but the grant rejection might slow down its timeline. [LAT]
