Burbank Ikea Lets the Sunshine In

New, 12 comments

Last week the Burbank Ikea on San Fernando Road finished installing 1,260 solar panels on their roof. The Los Angeles Times, via The Burbank Leader, says the panels will produce enough energy to power 37 homes for a year--Ikea will be able to help power their own store and the overflow energy they can't use will be fed back to Burbank Water and Power for other customers. With solar panels covering the Burbank Costco, part of Warner Bros. studios, and now Ikea, Burbank has made big strides in solar power--it was recently recognized by Solar Electric Power Assn. But even with those advances, the three private solar fields only provide about 1 percent of Burbank’s power during times of peak demand. [LA Times]
