Museum Ceilings Off Mulholland By Assembledge+ and Billy Rose

New, 36 comments

This past weekend the AIA/LA opened up four houses for its first spring home tour, "East and West of 405." Here's House #3, Assembledge+ and Billy Rose Design's Stoneridge Residence in Beverly Crest.

Photos by Elizabeth Daniels The Stoneridge Residence, by Assembledge+ and Billy Rose Design (and developed by Billy Rose), sits just behind a gate on the San Fernando Valley side of Mulholland. It's a renovation of a 1991 house built by a commercial builder who covered it all in brick and masonry, according to Assembledge+ principal David Thompson. He writes: "Glass and stucco were used to help to lighten the weightiness of the brick, while the interior material palette of organic materials and forms were meant to counter balance the heaviness and hard edge mass of the exterior. The pool and fountain in the rear were to provide a strong focal point and anchor within the large scale of the rear yard." The house is nearly 12,000 square feet on an acre and a half, and has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen, a dining room, a gym, a theater, a walk-in wine room, an infinity pool, a "Barragan inspired water feature," a spa, and a small orchard. It's for sale, asking $15.5 million.
