Damn those homeowners buying in Boyle Heights? An argument against gentrification of the neighborhood from the Rough Rider Blog: "History dies when the people leave the place, no longer will it be a special place where people can take refuge. It becomes a “hip” place where mindless people go to become not mainstream." (A counterpoint, not mentioned in this blog post, would be that locals cash out during the real estate boom and move to even nicer neighborhoods and homes, paving the way for the young renters to come in. But that's just one theory.) And more: "BH has been a ground for many immigrants families who were rejected from other places. Hipster nation will not become the next Boyle Heights." [BH]
