Despite some skepticism that followed the City Council's vote to boycott all things Arizona (with, uh, some exceptions), Arizona's economy has indeed been hit hard by nationwide reaction to that state's illegal immigration stance. Convention bookings dropped significantly--Phoenix went from being in the top fourth spot to 23rd, according to the New York Times. The state considered more anti-immigration bills this week, but ultimately rejected them amid worries over more backlash. Arizona businesses are also angry lawmakers didn't more clearly think about their actions: "A letter signed by 60 state business leaders this week blamed last year’s bill for boycotts, canceled contracts, declining sales and other economic setbacks."
