In light of the accidents at Japan's nuclear plants, state and federal officials are calling for reviews of the San Onofre and Diablo Canyon nuclear plants, according to the Los Angeles Times, which reports that the San Onofre nuclear power has been cited "dozens of times in recent years for safety violations" while inspectors found "lapses" at Diablo Canyon in 2009. More: "Less than three years ago, a previously unknown fault was discovered within a mile of Diablo Canyon, and although regulators have asked the companies to conduct further seismic studies, neither has sought permits necessary to do so." The two plants supply nearly 15 percent of the state's power, according to the paper. [LAT]
