As we explained, most GPS systems lead tourists in search of the Hollywood Sign to Deronda Drive, a narrow road that dead-ends at the Mount Lee access gate (which is closed to the public). The sign looks great from up there, but the area gets congested, tourists smoke, and in a fire-prone Hills neighborhood, the combination is scary (and plain annoying). Resident David Schafer made this video to show the problem.
But there aren't a lot of other good options, either. Hollywoodland Homeowners Association board member Jeanne Clark made this chart showing the pros and cons of the various Hollywood sign access points.
