In further Santa Monica news, the city toasted itself on yesterday, when officials gathered at the Annenberg House to celebrate the 50 or so accolades Santa Monica has received from various media and organizations, reports the Santa Monica Daily Press. While the biggest nod may be National Geographic recently naming Santa Monica as one of the world's top 10 beach cities, Santa Monica's other awards varied from fancy to lofty to esoteric to weird: Zagat said The Penthouse at The Huntley housed 2010's best restaurant decor; the Santa Monica Symphony received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts; the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association said the Big Blue Bus maintenance facility rocked; and Los Angeles magazine claimed the Fairmont Miramar Hotel utilized bacon the best out of all area restaurants. Anyway, the city's convention and visit bureau will be taking advantage of all the love by launching a new slogan, “Santa Monica: California's most celebrated beach city,” that will be part of their marketing efforts this year.
