VERNON: The LA Conservancy is asking mid-century lovers to go for a cocktail at La Villa Basque, an until-recently very well preserved restaurant in Vernon, and tell the new owners to quit gutting the place. The restaurant was established in 1960 by a descendent of one of Vernon's founders, and has a dining area, lounge, and coffee shop filled with mid-centuriana including flagcrete, mosaic tile, custom light fixtures, and a swank custom fireplace. It's so perfectly period that Don and Peggy drank there while they listened to the Sonny Liston-Cassius Clay fight in the Mad Men episode "The Suitcase" (video below). [Curbed Inbox]
ATWATER VILLAGE: Bands, DJs, food trucks and more await. On March 5th, GOOD Magazine is throwing a fundraiser for CicLAvia, the greatest street event of last year. The entry level fee of $20 gets you entrance, a drink ticket and more. Find out more. Meanwhile, get your bike ready--the next CicLAVia event is taking place April 10th. [Curbed Inbox]
