Two's a coincidence; three's a trend: Following news about 1111 Wilshire breaking ground in April, another downtown project will soon start work. The Downtown News reports that the Chinatown Gateway will break ground in a few weeks and, when finished in two years, bring 280 apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space. The project’s parcel is literally just beyond the Chinatown gateway sign on Broadway and is currently occupied by a parking lot. Developer Equity Residential of Chicago (behind Union Station’s Mozaic, among others) has been working on the project for five years, but held off work for two years because of the economy. No explanation about that brown swirly design.
