Metro and Caltrans originally planned to widen the 405's Mulholland Bridge gradually, but now they want to replace it with a new bridge and tear down the old one altogether. At a four-hour meeting last night, Metro fielded some community objections to that plan and "said they could meet most of the concerns involving wildlife and traffic and agreed to reduce the retaining walls being proposed." However, they gave a firm "no" to the suggestion that "a world-class architect" design the new bridge. [LADN]
