A tale of man-and-fowl friendship, the Los Angeles Times covers the story of Echo Park's Maria the Goose, who is now best pals with local Dominic Ehrler. But now that the Echo Park Lake is being drained, there's worry about what will happen to Maria. "The two-year project, financed by Proposition O bond funds, will involve dredging the lake and installing a special clay liner to prevent future seepage. 'They're supposed to collect the birds and truck them to another lake. I plan to follow her there, because when you have a friend like this you don't want to lose her,' he said." [LAT]
