The Santa Monica city attorney's office recently began enforcing a state law that says that "city officers or employees shall not be financially interested in any contract made by them in their official capacity, or by any board or commission they serve on," and in response, planning commissioners and architects Hank Koning and Gwynn Pugh have both stepped down. The city council is set to pick a replacement for Koning tonight, but only one of the 14 applicants is an architect (John Berley of Frederick Fisher & Partners). According to the Lookout News, SaMo could be seeing its first Planning Commission without an architect "in at least a quarter century." [Lookout News]
