Redondo Beach approved funding for its pier's high-class makeover this week--now they'll start work on hiring an architecture and engineering firm to oversee the project, which includes "new landscaping, benches and lighting around the long-languishing pier, including new pavement and repairs to the bicycle path." Phase I is expected to be finish this spring. Two private developers are working on their own redevelopments for the area, including the boutique Shade Hotel and a remodel of the Pier Landing building. [Daily Breeze]
