The state bullet train may be in limbo, but the Desert News reports that Caltrans recently ok'd a $400,000 study on improving rail service between LA and the Palm Springs area. Potential stations, costs, and equipment will all be explored. One option is to make the Amtrak Sunset Limited--which runs three times a week from LA to New Orleans with a stop in Palm Springs--a daily route. The other likely scenario is the creation of a brand new daily service from LA to Indio, with a possible eventual extension to Phoenix. The study should take about three months. [Desert News]
