Long Beach's Hotel Maya (a DoubleTree property) is using the supposed Mayan end-times prophesy, which some gullible people believe pegs December 21, 2012 as the date of the apocalypse, as an excuse to party. They're hosting The Year to Go Mayan, saying on their Facebook page that "instead of doom and gloom, we're predicting fun and revelry Hotel Maya-style." The YtGM will include "monthly hotel weekend giveaways, a Mayan guest lecture series, themed movies and a Mayan dinner show at the 194-room waterfront property," according to the Press-Telegram. Giveaway entrants will also have a chance to win a week in Yucatan, Mexico in the Mayan region (the area is running it own marketing campaigns). And, for $169 per night (two-night minimum), guests will be able to buy the Live Your Life to the Fullest package, which includes a waterfront room, breakfast, a $50 resort credit, parking, and internet. The year will cap off with an End of the World Party at the hotel's restaurant, and meanwhile the hotel's website features a handy apocalypse countdown clock.
