Renovating Rampart

Neighborhood activists have been hoping to put the LAPD's old, abandoned Rampart Division station to some sort of community-serving use, but it turns out the police actually have plans for it. Eastsider LA reports that "beginning in January, preliminary work will begin on a $17.6 million project will to convert the approximately 45-year-old station into the headquarters for the department’s SWAT Team and other elements of the Metro Division...The project will completely renovate the approximately 25,000-square building, which will be strengthened to better withstand earthquakes and outfitted with all new electrical, plumbing and ventilation systems."
