Here it is: the 2011 Curbed Cup race for Los Angeles Neighborhood of the Year. Round one of our tournament features 16 'hoods vying for the coveted golden jpeg--we'll have two matchups every day through Thursday, then take a look at our tournament bracket on Friday. Voting for each poll ends at noon the next day (and will be watched closely for any shenanigans). Let the neighborhood on neighborhood carnage begin!
The birthplace of the hipster flip continued to flip out all year--flipper kings Better Shelter even built their first new house in the nabe. On top of that, HP got LA's first bike corral and a vegan drive-through.
There was plenty of USC-based action around Exposition Park this year--plans were made for the Chevon-killing housing, the new Village at USC, and a new Annenberg School building on campus, and the USC-adjacent tanning booth housing opened and leased up in about two minutes. But there were also exciting things happening in Expo Park proper--the California Science Center is getting a space shuttle (possibly in skyscraper form) and the Natural History Museum opened a new dinosaur hall and made progress on its North Campus.
