Santa Monica Coffee Fans Rejoice, French on Franklin, Westwood's Upscale Pizza

New, 4 comments

SANTA MONICA: Hopefully, the opening of obscenely expensive coffee joints is a good sign economy-wise. Montana Ave. will soon be home to Primo Passo Coffee Co., a luxe new spot at Seventh. The drinks will be from direct trade beans; the shop opens next month after baristas train for nearly six weeks.

HOLLYWOOD: What looks like a high-falutin' French bistro is opening up at Franklin and Argyle on Monday. Papilles, occupying the former Raffallo's spot, will "offer a weekly-changing menu with a selection of two appetizers, two mains, a cheese course, and two desserts -- costing roughly $25 to $40 for a meal without alcohol."

WESTWOOD: Eater has a lot of details on Lindbrook's new upscale pizzeria, 800°. It's described as a fancy Chipotle, where you pick your toppings before your pie is tossed in a big oven--it cooks in one minute flat. The ingredients sound top-notch and an opening is expected in early January.

CULVER CITY: If you're free on Monday night--and not going to Papilles--put this in your date book: the Eater/Coolhaus Ugly Sweater Hot Chocolate Launch Storefront Warming Party at the Coolhaus on Washington. "There will be free ice cream beer floats, booze, seasonal ice cream sammies, hot chocolate (boozy if that's how you like it), a dj, and a cranky Santa. Maybe." *Update: The party is invite-only, so apologies to anyone who got their hopes up for free hot chocolate.
